AS Level = Papers 1, 2 and 3. Full A Level = all five. There is no coursework.
Where marks are actually lost
- Paper 5. Planning a method with clear variables and safety, analysing with uncertainties, and evaluating with specific errors and improvements. Vague answers score poorly.
- Uncertainty and significant figures. Tested regularly across papers; a reliable source of lost marks.
- Calculations without working. Marks go to the formula, the substitution and the answer with its unit. A correct number alone is not enough.
- Explanations without physics principles. Describing what happens rather than why.
