AMSAT English Language Test - Elite Track

English Language Sequential Test

An electronic test that aims to measure the level of students in the fourth, sixth, eighth and tenth grades in English language proficiency skills. It is conducted according to the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The English Language Test for Grades 4, 5 and 6 focuses on reading skills in terms of:

English Grammar Test - English vocabulary plus reading and comprehension skills.

As for the eighth and tenth grades, in addition to the reading skills test, it also focuses on the writing test in terms of measuring students’ skills in writing an extended response to a short prompt, and the duration of the writing test is 30 minutes.

Questions for the AMSAT English Sequential Test are randomly selected for most sections of the test. 

The test time is calculated according to the computer and the student can see how much time is left until the end of the test.

What are the sections of the English language sequential test for the fourth, sixth, eighth and tenth grades?

The content of the English language sequential test consists of four parts:

Part One: English Vocabulary Test - English Language Test

English Vocabulary Test

1- The English vocabulary test focuses on measuring comprehension and correction skills using high frequency words, which are words that occur frequently during writing, such as and – the – as, and are used effectively according to the intermediate level of English.

2-      The content of the words is based on the English vocabulary file according to the site. www.englishporfile.org

It is an English vocabulary profile that provides reliable information about the words and meanings of words and phrases known and used by learners at each level of the Common European Framework. The word list has been checked to ensure that the words are culturally appropriate and academically useful.

  The English vocabulary test focuses on the following types of questions:

Multiple choice

The student chooses the correct answer from the multiple choices.

Matching vocabulary - matching a word with its synonym

cloze passage - missing vocabulary

It requires the student to understand the context and vocabulary to identify missing words in the text. 

Section Two: English Grammar Test

The English Grammar test focuses on assessing and measuring students' skills in understanding and formulating sentences correctly according to English grammar using the structure or grammatical rules of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​level.

The question formats for the English grammar test are:

  • multiple choice
  • Sentence Construction
  • cloze passage - missing parts

  It requires the student to understand the context and write the missing parts of the sentence according to the rules of the English language.

 Section Three: Reading Test - English Language Sequential Test

The English reading test for the sequential touches includes two questions: 

Question 1: Individual reading question

It includes a short reading passage, after which the student answers one question that measures comprehension skills specific to the passage presented.

Question 2: Extensive reading question

It includes a large reading passage that includes 5-7 questions revolving around the passage presented.

The type of questions in this section is multiple choice and includes the following:

  • Specific detail
  • meaning of unknown word
  • whole meaning
  • inference
  • Pronoun Reference : The student replaces the pronoun reference in the reading paragraph with the word that replaces it or refers to it.

The reading test for students in grades 4-6-8-10 is 50 minutes.

The number of questions in the reading test is from 60 to 65 questions.

The test content varies between English vocabulary - English grammar - a reading passage to measure comprehension skills.

Writing Test - AMSAT Sequential English Language Test for 8th and 10th Grade Students Only

The reading test begins with 5 paragraphs where students must construct prose or dialogue paragraphs by dragging and dropping between 3 to 6 sentences and placing them in the appropriate and correct places.

Then the student builds the paragraphs and moves to the main section of the reading test, which is writing the extended answer. 

 In response to the previously formed paragraphs, the writing test duration is 30 minutes.

The total duration of the writing test for grades 8 and 10 is 50 minutes. 

The questions for the test are:

 5 paragraph generator questions, then an extended answer is written (30 minutes time limit)

 English Language Testing System (EAST) Scores

Level 4

above the expected level

It indicates that the student's ability is higher than the expected level.

The student has the ability to interact and be productive at a high level.

Level 3

on-track

It expresses that the student’s ability is at the correct level for his/her grade level. If the student continues to perform at an increasing rate, it is possible to achieve the performance level goal in grade 12.

Level 2

1-2 grade levels behind

It expresses that the student's ability is late, which requires the student to improve his or her abilities in order to achieve the required level of performance in grade 12.

Level 1

3-4 grade levels behind

It expresses that the student's level is below expectations and it will not be likely that the student will achieve the required level of performance in grade 12. Continuous effort.
