IELTS in Bahrain 2026 — Fees in BHD, Test Centres in Manama, and the Band AUBH and Bahrain Polytechnic Require | IELTS في البحرين
In two lines: IELTS in Bahrain costs BHD 149 at IDP (Bu Quwah, Manama) or BHD 156 at the British Council (Shaikh Salman Highway, Manama), both on computer, with UKVI at BHD 159–167. The band you need is set by the door, not by the test: the American University of Bahrain lists 6.0, Bahrain Polytechnic lists 4.5 for undergraduate entry on the IELTS recognising-organisations register, and UK or healthcare routes expect more. Decide the target band first, then the format, then the date.

Fees and venues in Bahrain
| Provider / venue | Academic or General (computer) | UKVI (computer) | Life Skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| IDP IELTS Bahrain — Platform Plaza, Bu Quwah, Manama | BHD 149 | BHD 159 | — |
| British Council Bahrain — 146 Shaikh Salman Highway, Manama | BHD 156 | BHD 167 | BHD 88 (A1 / B1) |
Both providers deliver the same test and the same certificate; the BHD 7 difference buys nothing except, sometimes, a more convenient date. Fees as listed on the test centres' official pages on 4 October 2026 and may change — confirm at booking.
Format and results
Both Bahrain centres run IELTS on computer, which means more dates and results typically within 1–5 days. Paper sittings, where offered, are fewer. Choose paper only if you type much more slowly than you write — the Writing section is where the format matters.
One Skill Retake
If you miss your target in one skill only, you can retake that skill within 60 days instead of the whole test. Check that your institution accepts One Skill Retake results before you pay — acceptance varies.
A realistic preparation plan from Bahrain
- One full timed practice test, scored per skill. Plan around your lowest skill.
- 4.5 → 6.0 (the AUBH line): 10–12 weeks; this is a grammar-and-reading-speed gap, not a tips gap.
- 6.0 → 7.0 (UK and healthcare routes): 6–8 weeks focused on Writing Task 2 and Speaking Part 3, with weekly timed writing.
- Students from Bahrain's national (Arabic-medium) curriculum typically lose most points on Reading speed and Writing structure — build daily reading time into the plan.
When you do not need a course
- You hit your target band in a timed official practice test.
- Your institution accepts Duolingo, Linguaskill or TOEFL and you are stronger there (AUBH accepts all three).
- You need 4.5 for the Polytechnic and already study in an English-medium school — a few timed practice tests may be enough.
