Details of the third episode of education in the education system in the United Arab Emirates

The Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates is the sole authority responsible for education in all government schools. The Ministry has developed a framework that includes a wide range of educational materials, based on a set of educational and professional standards.

The Ministry of Education curriculum is designed in a manner that is consistent with the national values and culture of the country. The Ministry of Education curriculum is taught in all emirates of the country and is recognized by colleges and universities throughout the country. Arabic is the language of instruction for all subjects, except English.

As for the educational stages in the United Arab Emirates, the Ministry applies the following four educational stages in government schools: Kindergarten KG1 and KG2, which is a non-compulsory stage, the foundation cycle or the first cycle (from grades 1 to 4) , the second cycle from grades 5 to 8, and finally the third cycle, which is the secondary stage (from grades 9 to 12) , which begins after the completion of the previous intermediate stage, and we will talk about it in some detail in the following lines.

Academic Tracks in the Third Cycle (Secondary Education)

It is worth noting that this stage previously consisted of only two tracks (the scientific track and the literary track). Of course, the scientific track focused on science and mathematics subjects, and the literary track focused on languages and general literature.

With the development taking place in the labor market, the growing capabilities of students, and the tremendous technological development, many amendments have been made to the educational tracks in the secondary stage, to become four tracks instead of two, with the aim of enhancing, strengthening, and developing the various skills and capabilities of students, which helps them prepare adequately to face the labor market and prepare new, distinguished leaders for the future.

Regardless of the track the student joins, all students are qualified in accordance with the educational policy in the country, the requirements of higher education and the needs of the labor market. This track is concerned with providing the student with positive knowledge and skills towards specializations related to Islamic, human and natural sciences in order to achieve integration between the scientific and human fields. From the above, it is clear that students in this track receive less intensive scientific materials, but at the same time they have opportunities to join applied scientific specializations at the university level.

  •     english language.
  •     mathematics.
  •     the sciences.

This is subject to the student’s desire, inclinations and academic performance. Students in these two tracks, the general and the advanced , study Arabic, English, Islamic education, national education, social studies and business administration, physical education, and basic sciences, which are mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, health sciences, creative design and free activities.

Among the advantages of the advanced track This advanced track provides students (in contrast to students in the general track) with intensive preparation in physics, mathematics and chemistry. This advanced track provides tremendous opportunities for students wishing to pursue higher education or vocational training in the UAE.

3- Elite Track (Advanced Science and Mathematics Program):

The Elite Pathway starts from the sixth grade and is specially designed for distinguished and academically superior students. This path continues from the sixth grade to the twelfth grade. The Elite Pathway curriculum focuses on developing and strengthening the skills of analysis, critical thinking and good practical problem solving by focusing on mathematics and science subjects. It is currently available in 89 government schools in the Emirates.

4- Career path in the third stage (specialized):

The application of the vocational track (or what is known as the applied track) begins from the ninth grade and the student completes grades (9-10-11-12) and then obtains the applied general secondary certificate similar to the technical secondary certificate. It is worth noting that the vocational track is based primarily on the practical approach to learning and applying knowledge and linking it to real life and developing students' practical skills and refining their talents and abilities in line with the labor market.

How does a student choose the appropriate path for him?

It is very important for the student to take into consideration his goals, desires and different abilities, in addition to determining his ability to learn in any of the aforementioned different tracks, so that he can measure his level and academic performance and thus have the ability to follow up on his performance and anticipate the results he wants to achieve so that he can obtain a good and distinguished professional future.

After completing the study in the third stage (secondary), in any of its aforementioned tracks, the student is granted a secondary school certificate, which means completing (12) years of basic or compulsory education. Students who have completed their education in the technical secondary school are granted a secondary technical diploma.
