IELTS

If you want to enroll in an international university or apply for a job abroad, you must take a test to assess your English before you can follow the necessary procedures. This is the IELTS test that many people in the UAE are interested in.

IELTS exam in UAE

The IELTS test is the admission ticket to many countries around the world to complete university education, and some universities in the UAE require passing the IELTS test to accept admission applications. It is worth noting that some jobs also require applicants to obtain an IELTS certificate.

The IELTS test is divided into 3 parts, each part has a specific function, and there is also a general IELTS test related to job applications and immigration. The IELTS test is scored from 0 to 9, and it should be noted that a good score ranges between 4.5 and 7.5, which is the sum of the scores obtained by applicants in each part of the test.

IELTS Exam Sections in UAE

The IELTS exam is divided into 4 sections: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Each section has a specific time set by the exam coordinators. The exam duration is approximately 3 hours. It is worth noting that the IELTS exam is paper-based, except for the speaking section.

Listening

Applicants first take the Listening test and should take into account that the tape can only be played once and cannot be listened to again, so they must concentrate to answer correctly. The Listening section of the IELTS test is divided into four sessions.

  • The first conversation: The applicant must fill in the blanks that he will answer according to the first article of the tape. This is a normal conversation between two people.
  • The second part of the Listening section of the IELTS test sample includes multiple-choice questions and the answer lies in the recording, which includes personal words on general topics.
  • The third part is the dialogue, which is a dialogue between four people, and it is the academic part, and finally the personal speeches on academic topics.
  • Exam duration: 30 minutes

Reading

After a short break, you will start the reading part of the UAE IELTS test directly. This part consists of 40 questions to test the student’s ability to read, as well as their ability to understand the required meaning and main ideas.

  • The reading section of the UAE IELTS test is divided into three texts extracted from books, newspapers or magazines. The characteristics of these texts are correct and suitable for ordinary readers, taking into account their applicability to the reading ability test.
  • The IELTS Reading test contains different types of questions, including multiple choice questions, analysis questions and other academic reading questions.
  • Exam duration: 60 minutes

Writing

This is followed by the writing part of the IELTS test , which consists of two questions, and the applicant must write on general topics selected by the test coordinators.

  • The first question of the writing section, the applicant is asked to write a topic and discuss a graph, chart and even a statistical table.
  • Question 2: The applicant must answer a question or express an opinion of no less than 250 words.
  • When answering these two questions, it must be taken into account that the language used is the official language .
  • Exam duration: 60 minutes

Conversation

The speaking part is the last part of the IELTS test. It measures the applicant’s speaking skills and is a non-paper part, unlike the previous parts of the test.

The Speaking section measures the applicant's ability to use English in conversation . The Speaking section is divided into three parts;

  • Part 1 The test coordinator asks candidates to answer some general questions and some general topics, and this part takes 4 to 5 minutes to complete.
  • Part Two: Candidates are asked to have a two-minute discussion on a given topic, and the moderator asks one or two questions about the candidates' answers to the test.
  • Finally, the coordinator asks several questions on the same topic; the second part is to give the applicant a chance to discuss. When you book an IELTS test you will book an oral test.
  • Exam duration: 11-14 minutes

  • When registering for the IELTS test, please ensure that you register at one of the centres that offer IELTS courses .
