Start here — which question is yours?

Where the calendar stands right now (checked 27 October 2026). Registration for the 7 November sitting has closed — the regular deadline was 23 October and late registration ended 27 October. The next sitting you can still register for is 5 December 2026, and its registration deadline is 20 November 2026 (late registration 24 November; scores released 18 December). That 5 December sitting is the last one whose scores arrive in time for an application deadline in early January — the sitting after it is 6 March 2027, and its scores land on 19 March. So if you are applying this cycle, 20 November is the date that actually constrains you, not any exam date.

In two lines: The digital SAT runs in Doha on the same global dates — the next sitting open for registration is 5 December 2026, then 6 March, 1 May and 5 June 2027. In Qatar it matters mainly for Education City applicants and for Qatar University maths placement. For most other routes out of Qatar it is optional or irrelevant — which is why the first question below is whether you need it at all, not how to prepare for it.

Do you actually need the SAT exam in Qatar?

Your plan SAT status What to do instead / as well
Carnegie Mellon Qatar — AI or Computer Science Required Submit scores by the deadline. Get the score-report code from the university's own admissions page at the time you send scores — do not copy a code from a blog.
Carnegie Mellon Qatar — Biology, Business, Information Systems Test flexible SAT/ACT, or predicted IB / French Bac / British (4+ AS or 3+ A-Level), or 3+ AP results
Qatar University Used for maths placement, not as a general admission test A sufficient Maths section score can exempt you from placement maths; lower bands route you into Pre-Calculus or Elementary Algebra. Confirm the current cut-offs with the testing centre before you rely on them.
Other Education City campuses (Georgetown, Northwestern, HBKU) Policies change by year Check each campus's current admissions page before you register — last year's rule is not evidence of this year's.
US universities from Qatar Many have reinstated test requirements since 2024 Check each target university individually; the picture is no longer uniform.
UK / Canada / Europe Usually not needed Your curriculum results and English test matter more.
Qatari General Secondary Certificate → a Qatari public university Usually not the deciding factor Your certificate results and any university placement test carry the weight. Do not buy SAT preparation before you have confirmed it is used.

Caveat that matters more than anything else on this page: requirements are set by each university, change between admission cycles, and differ between colleges inside the same university. Everything above was read from the universities' own admissions and testing pages and is a starting point for your own check — not a substitute for it. Ask the admissions office, and ask for the requirement in writing with the cycle it applies to.

Test centres in Qatar

The SAT in Qatar is a centre-based digital test — it cannot be taken at home. Centres are mostly international schools in Doha, plus a university testing centre. Seats at the popular Doha centres fill before the registration deadline on autumn dates, so the practical advice is to register as soon as a date opens rather than close to the cut-off.

The only reliable centre list for a given date is the live seat-availability search shown during registration, because centres are added and withdrawn between sittings. Registration and payment are online through your own test-taker account.

SAT dates, deadlines and score release — 2026–27

The dates are the same worldwide. The two columns most people miss are the late registration cut-off and the score release date — and the second is what actually decides which sitting you can use for a given application deadline.

Test date Registration deadline Late registration Scores released
7 November 2026 — closed 23 October 2026 27 October 2026 20 November 2026
5 December 2026 — next open sitting 20 November 2026 24 November 2026 18 December 2026
6 March 2027 19 February 2027 23 February 2027 19 March 2027
1 May 2027 16 April 2027 20 April 2027 14 May 2027
5 June 2027 21 May 2027 25 May 2027 21 June 2027

How to read that table backwards from your deadline: for an Education City deadline in early January, the 5 December sitting is the last safe one — its scores land on 18 December. If you sit in March instead, your scores arrive on 19 March, which is after most regular-decision deadlines have closed. And the retake window has now closed for this cycle: November and December were only four weeks apart, which was enough to sit twice; with November gone, 5 December is a single attempt with no second chance before January. Plan it as one shot, not as a trial run.

The rule to remember rather than the rows: the registration deadline falls roughly two weeks before each test date, and scores arrive roughly two weeks after it. So from any application deadline, count back about four weeks to find the last sitting that still works — and then count back another two to find the day you must have registered by.

Sources and reservation: these dates and deadlines were taken from two independent published calendars read on 8 October 2026, and the two matched on every date, deadline and release date above; the December row was re-verified against the official calendar and a second independent source on 27 October 2026. Deadlines are stated in US Eastern Time, so convert carefully — a deadline that reads as one date in Doha may already have passed. Treat the day before the stated deadline as your real deadline. Confirm against the official calendar in your own account before you plan around any row.

Registration cost

There is a base registration charge plus an additional charge for sitting the test outside the United States, and further charges for late registration, changing centre or date, and extra score reports. Scores remain usable for five years.

We are not publishing a converted riyal figure here, because the conversion is our own arithmetic rather than a published number and it goes out of date. Read the exact current amount on the registration screen before you pay — it is shown before you confirm.

What the digital SAT looks like

Two sections, four modules, 98 questions, 134 minutes: Reading and Writing (two modules, 32 minutes each) and Maths (two modules, 35 minutes each, with a calculator permitted throughout). The second module of each section adapts to how you performed in the first, which means the first module sets your ceiling. The two section paths are independent of one another, and you cannot return to an earlier module. There is no essay, there are no subject tests, and there is no penalty for a wrong answer — so leave nothing blank.

If you have seen preparation material describing an essay, SAT subject tests or a no-calculator maths section, it is describing a version of the test that no longer exists.

Preparing from Qatar: a realistic plan

  1. Sit one full official practice test before you buy anything. Your starting score decides every choice below, and nothing else does.
  2. Well below your target: plan on roughly ten to twelve weeks at five to six hours a week. Most of the gap is usually maths content, not test strategy — and a strategy course will not fix a content gap. Note what that means today: ten weeks from late October does not fit before 5 December. If this is your situation, March is your date and December is not — and knowing that now is worth more than a rushed six weeks.
  3. Within about a hundred points of your target: six to eight weeks focused on your two weakest question types, with a second full practice test a third of the way in.
  4. Already at or above your target on an official practice test: you probably do not need a course at all. Two more timed practice tests are enough.
  5. If you are coming from an Arabic-medium school or the Qatari national curriculum, expect to lose most points on Reading and Writing — vocabulary in context, and maths word problems where the obstacle is the English rather than the maths. Budget reading time, not only maths drills. This is the single most common planning mistake we see from this market.

When you do not need a course

  • Your target universities are test-optional and your grades are strong — the time is better spent on the application itself.
  • You are already at your target on an official practice test.
  • You only need to clear a university maths placement — a focused three-to-four-week maths review is usually enough.
  • You have not yet confirmed that any university on your list actually uses the SAT. Confirm that first; it is the cheapest step available to you.
  • Your real obstacle is English generally rather than this test specifically — in that case general English work will move your score further than SAT drills.

If you do need preparation: which route fits you

Do this before you read the table: sit one full official practice test, timed, in one sitting. Without a section-by-section result, every row below is a guess. The most common waste of money we see in this subject is a full course bought by someone whose obstacle was one section.

And if you would rather work through that step by step before looking at the table: the self-check — where your obstacle actually is, and which route fits it. It identifies the section, then the pattern inside it — and the pattern is what decides the Qatar question below: an obstacle that is a single section threshold is a different problem from an obstacle that is an admission score, and the two point to opposite rows — then how many weeks you genuinely have. Three of its nine outcomes end in "you do not need a route at all".

Where you are after the practice test What you actually need Route
You have not sat the test or a practice test, and do not know where your obstacle is An initial assessment that locates it — and tells you whether you need review at all Initial assessment and focused review
You have sat it before and know your weakness is in one section Focused review, not full coverage Short focused programme
Both sections are costing you points Wider coverage of both Extended programme
Maths is fine and the points are lost in Reading and Writing — the most common pattern from an Arabic-medium background A route built for that section specifically Reading and Writing route
The obstacle is maths, and underneath it algebra and geometry Maths foundations first — before any test-technique work Foundation maths
Maths is already strong and you are targeting the top band in it specifically Top-band question practice Advanced maths · see the Qatar note below
You want full coverage from the beginning through to sitting the test Complete coverage Full SAT course

Two Qatar-specific warnings on this table.
First, on the advanced maths row: if your maths is already strong and the points are going in Reading and Writing — which this page states is the usual pattern from an Arabic-medium or national-curriculum background — then an advanced maths route makes your strong side stronger and leaves the obstacle exactly where it was. That route is for someone targeting the top maths band specifically, not for someone trying to raise a total score.
Second, and it applies only in Qatar: if the only thing you need the SAT for is clearing a university maths placement, then none of the full-coverage rows apply to you, and neither does the Reading and Writing route. Your target is one section threshold, not an admission score — a focused maths review is the whole job. Check which of the two situations you are in before you choose, because they point to opposite rows.

And a third warning that only applies at this point in the calendar. With 7 November gone, there are about four weeks between today and the 5 December sitting, and the registration deadline is 20 November. Four weeks is enough to sharpen a technique and not enough to close a content gap. So if the practice test says your obstacle is maths content or general English rather than pacing, the honest choice is to register for March and use the time properly — not to buy a compressed course for a sitting you cannot be ready for. A route bought to meet a date rather than to fix an obstacle is the thing this page exists to talk you out of.

What this table deliberately does not contain. No prices — pricing is set by management and is read on the route's own page. No "best route", because the best route here is a function of where your obstacle sits, not a property of a product — the route that suits your classmate may be the worst choice for you. And no promise of a score: we begin with a diagnostic and a written plan stating how many sessions we expect you to need. Frequently asked questions

When is the next SAT exam in Qatar?

The next sitting still open for registration is 5 December 2026, with a registration deadline of 20 November 2026, late registration to 24 November, and scores released on 18 December. Registration for the 7 November sitting closed on 23 October. The sitting after December is 6 March 2027.

Has registration closed for the November 2026 SAT?

Yes. The regular deadline was 23 October 2026 and late registration ended 27 October. If you have missed it, your next option is 5 December, and the date that constrains you is its 20 November registration deadline.

Is the SAT required for Qatar University?

It is not used as a general admission test. It is used for maths placement, where a sufficient Maths section score can exempt you from placement maths. Individual colleges may set their own rules, and the cut-offs change — confirm with the testing centre rather than relying on a published figure.

Does Carnegie Mellon Qatar require the SAT?

Yes for Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. For Biological Sciences, Business Administration and Information Systems it is test flexible: predicted IB, French Baccalaureate or British results, or three AP exams, can be substituted.

Can I take the SAT at home in Qatar?

No. It is taken at an authorised centre on the official dates.

Which SAT date should I sit for an Education City application?

Work backwards from your deadline using the score-release column above. For an early-January deadline, 5 December is the last safe sitting, because its scores are released on 18 December. The March sitting releases scores on 19 March, after most regular-decision deadlines.

How many times can I sit it?

There is no limit that matters in practice, and scores stay usable for five years. But sitting again without closing the underlying content gap tends to return a similar score — a retake is worth booking only once you know what you are fixing. Note that with November gone, December is a single attempt before January deadlines, not the first of two.

Do I need the SAT if I am staying in Qatar for university?

Often not. Outside Education City and maths placement, it is usually not the deciding factor. Confirm with each university on your list before you spend anything on preparation.

How do I find out where my obstacle is before choosing anything?

Sit one full official practice test, timed, and record each section separately. Then work through the self-check: it identifies the section, the pattern inside it, and how many weeks you genuinely have. Three of its nine outcomes conclude that you do not need a route at all.

Which SAT preparation route should I choose?

Whichever one matches where your obstacle sits — and that is only knowable after a full timed practice test. The routing table above maps each situation to a route. If your only need is clearing a university maths placement in Qatar, a focused maths review is the whole job and no full course applies.

My maths score is high — should I take an advanced maths route?

Only if you are targeting the top maths band specifically. If your points are being lost in Reading and Writing, an advanced maths route strengthens your strong side and leaves the obstacle in place.
