What is the IELTS test:

It is the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, and there are two versions of the test available:

  • IELTS Academic Version
  • IELTS General Training

The IELTS test is one of the most common language tests that international universities include as part of their admission requirements. IELTS test results are accepted by more than (11,000) institutions in (140) countries around the world, including educational institutions, companies, professional institutions and government agencies.

What does the IELTS test consist of?

The IELTS test consists of four sections:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • speaking
  • Listening

IELTS Test Details
  • Listening – Test duration 30 minutes Includes:

    1. 4 recorded monologues and conversations – Test duration 30 minutes.

  • Reading - Test duration 60 minutes Includes:

    Three reading passages with the following tasks:
    1. Section One: 2 to 3 short factual texts from brochures, official documents, books, and newspapers.
    2. Section Two: Contains 2 short realistic texts related to the work.
    3. Section Three: Contains one longer text on a general topic.

  • Conversation – Test duration from 11 to 14 minutes – Includes:

    1. A face-to-face interview that includes short questions, extensive talk on a familiar topic, and structured discussion.

  • Writing – Test duration 60 minutes – Includes:

    1. A writing of not less than 150 words in which the examinee summarizes, describes or explains – a table, graph, chart or illustration.
    2. Write a short article of no less than 250 words.

Important note

When you book to take an IELTS test with the British Council through this course, your test will be taken at an approved British Council IELTS test centre, whether you choose to take the test on paper or on computer.

If you are taking a paper-based IELTS test, your Speaking test may be scheduled on the same day as the other sections of the test, or on a different day up to seven days before or after your main test day. You will receive advance notice to let you know if your Speaking test is on a different day to your main test day.

If you choose to take the exam via computer, you are free to choose the date and location of the speaking test.

It is concerned with measuring the English language proficiency required for studying at universities at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. In addition, the IELTS Academic test qualifies you to join British universities and is also suitable for people who wish to work in international institutions in English-speaking countries.
